The Malaysian Elephant Appeal is a charitable fund that was originally set up and managed by the Rotary Club of Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur in cooperation with the Malaysian Department of Wildlife and National Parks to raise funds to assist the elephants at the centre at Kuala Gandah. In 2002, management of the Fund was transferred to the Rotary Club of Temerloh. The Malaysian Elephant Appeal itself is a non-profit and non-governmental entity and is completely run by volunteers, ensuring that 100% of all donations go directly toward enhancing the welfare of the elephants at the centre and strengthening public awareness of Asian elephants and environmental issues.
